Like sewing? Make your own Cornhole Bags…. here’s how

We all know that the standard ACA cornhole bag is to be 6 inch by 6 inch square once filled with corn feed. But, how do we arrive at the exact measurement from the bare Duck canvas fabric.

To start, you will need Duck canvas. This can be purchased at most any fabric shop nationwide. Several colors are available however if you are unable to find a specific color, try dying your cloth and washing it a couple times prior to making your bags. This is a cool way to have the unique bags at your next barbecue. Cut your fabric to 7 inch by 7 inch squares. Sew the fabric using a quarter inch seam and be sure to double stitch, you’ll regret it if you don’t. At this stage you should have 6 and 1/2 inch by 6 and 1/2 inch unfilled bags. Simply add in your 1 pound of whole corn feed, purchased at your local feed store of course and the result will leave you with perfectly dimensioned cornhole bags of 6 inch by 6 inch square with 1 pound of corn feed.

It is best to use a heavy duty thread to sew your cornhole bags. These things are going to take a pounding during your play and you don’t want them to explode on the first hit. Also be sure that you absolutely use 100% corn feed, not beans, not bb’s, nothing but 100% pure corn feed, the cow feed stuff. As the corn breaks down in the bag it will create a “dust” which will help the bag grab the boards better as time goes by.
